In questo momento, mentre attendiamo i voli di rimpatrio forzato delle ultime persone sequestrate in acque internazionali dalla marina israeliana, il nostro pensiero va anche al grande sacrificio dei compagni di “Ship to Gaza Grecia”, campagna che, assieme a “Freedom Flotilla Italia” e alle altre della coalizione internazionale FFC, contribuisce alla missione Freedom Flotilla III. Queste persone hanno continuato a lavorare per il popolo palestinese di Gaza, nonostante la situazione di emergenza in cui versa il loro paese, negli ultimi anni, e in queste ultime settimane in particolare.
La Grecia è ora in prima linea nel difendere i diritti sociali alla base dell’Europa comunitaria, diritti che l’Europa della finanza vuole cancellare, incurante della crisi umanitaria che questo comporta.
Teniamo a far notare che l’attuale governo greco, nonostante la situazione sia ancora più difficile di quella del 2011, si è comportato onestamente, con dignità, non intervenendo per bloccare le imbarcazioni della Freedom Flotilla III, in partenza dai porti ellenici. Sembra ovvio che sia così, eppure il governo in carica nel 2011, in cerca di aiuti economici, si comportò in maniera opposta, emanando un decreto legge senza precedenti per fermare le imbarcazioni della Freedom Flotilla II, anche allora ancorate nei porti greci, in attesa di partire per Gaza.

Under the actual circumstances, while waiting for the return of last deported people, captured in international water by the Israeli Navy, our thoughts go also to the big efforts of the “Ship to Gaza Greece” campaign, that along with other campaigns in the international Freedom Flotilla Coalition, are contributing to the Freedom Flotilla III. Those Greek activists continued to work for the Palestinian people of Gaza, despite the emergency situation involving their country during the past years and particularly the past weeks.
Now Greece is front line defending the social rights that should be the grounds of the EU Community, whereas the actual Europe, led by financial market, is willing to cancel those rights, with no regard to the resulting humanitarian crisis.
We highlight the fact that the actual Greek Government, despite the current situation being even worst than in 2011, is acting honestly and with dignity towards Flotilla III boats, not having prevented them from departing from Greek ports. This may appear an odd statement. It is not, because the Greek Government in charge in 2011, probably seeking for economical help, choose to act differently issuing a Legislative Decree, unprecedented, thus preventing Freedom Flotilla II boats to Gaza from departing from Greek ports.
